Th is issue, and this most unusual year, has me thinking a lot about time. How do we spend, savor and share time? How do we manage, measure and mete it out? And, how time marches on, undeterred by events outside our control.
Time seems to have slowed in recent months, and this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The pause has given us room to contemplate what brings us joy and what we are grateful for. At MOD Society, we are grateful for the thinkers, doers, creators and leaders you’ll find within these pages.
Jacquie Gilliam, wife of UNC Greensboro’s Chancellor Frank Gilliam, is a philanthropic dynamo, a mover and shaker who also enjoys a good Southern-style stroll. She is making her mark on Greensboro through community service, giving back and a generous commitment of time.
Linda Knight Carr is an accomplished interior designer who believes that the centerpiece of any home is the family who inhabit it. She’s created a timeless classic in Winston-Salem, an elegant, easy, traditional space for a busy family of four.
David Kriegsman shares the story of his family furrier business that began in 1870s Austria and has survived and thrived for generations. His craftsmanship, customer focus and exquisitely tailored outerwear will warm your body—and your soul.
Up-and-coming filmmakers Jared Sprouse and John Williams are recent graduates of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA). They’ve returned to Winston-Salem from Los Angeles to film “Where’s Rose,” a horror movie with a timely, socially relevant theme. And they have brought a talented crew of fellow UNCSA alumni with them, as well as marquee stars such as Ty Simpkins, Anneliese Judge and Skyler Elyse Philpot.
Fall is fashion time and we have you covered on that front with a stylish spread curated by the Triad’s top fashionistas plus wise words and advice from Clothes Whisperer Maribeth Geraci.
Jeff Allen guides us through a masterful fall garden, reminding us that all is not dormant or dreary this time of year.
We toast the season with Pétillant Naturel wines, recommended by Zeto Wines and authentically crafted using the oldest known method (Limoux, France, 1531) to make sparkling wines.
See what I mean? Time tracks forward. Tradition endures. And somehow, with saving grace and a seven-second delay, the passage of time reminds us to celebrate the people, places and pursuits that inspire and uplift us.
MOD cheers to you! And to all the good times!
