CLOTHES WHISPERER

2020-08-29 08:25:57

Just like that, summer falls into September. And while the state of limbo follows us into autumn, I’ll do my best to update you on what’s happening in fashion and the new season.

While there have been many store and brand closings, these extreme circumstances have given the industry time to reflect, reorganize and redirect how business is conducted. And positive change is coming:

• The industry is exploring new ways to introduce collections going forward. Expect small capsule introductions instead of just four seasonal drops, which will allow a constant flow of fresh-on-the-floor style for customers.

• More diverse designers are getting looked at more thoughtfully, with the intent of mentoring and sponsoring some of those designers and helping smaller brands grow.

• Front and center are serious conversations about more transparency in production, wages, and waste.

• And while the industry at every level is struggling, there is real energy and motivation to be more innovative and inclusive. That’s good news!

As for DressCode Style, we will move forward and continue our long-time mantra of fewer, finer things and style with a shelf life. Our September special event will be Redesign, Renew, Reuse, which is a fun opportunity to bring in an item you own and love and let us repurpose it for you. Keep an eye out for dates and details.

Our selection for the season will continue to be handpicked with our clients in mind and with the hope to tempt potential new ones. A glimpse into the trends, colors, and styles for fall 2020 looks like an 80s throw back, with a new spin. You will see shoulder pads, pleated pants, short jackets, and sequins, even for day. Th e colors are all true fall with orange, camel, red, olive, blue and gray, even worn tonally head to toe. Sweaters, blouses, and comfort clothes will stay favorite categories, but done in a more refined less pajama-like way. We aren’t sure where we might be going this fall but putting ourselves together and coming together to keep our spirits up will be well worth the effort.
